Michael Popowits is a management consultant and facilitator
with over 10 years of experience training business professionals.
He adapts the extraordinary communication skills of improvisational
theater to the business environment to create dozens of experiential
training programs on management styles, listening, presentation
and interview skills, conflict resolution, work/life balance
and team leadership. His clients include Xerox, RR Donnelley,
Golin/Harris, Phillips Petroleum, Navistar, 3M, and Golin/Harris
International.
Mr. Popowits has 15 years of teaching experience, holding many
faculty positions. Since 1988 he has been on faculty at the
University of Illinois in Chicago (UIC) business school and
facilitates CEO forums for the UIC Family Business Council.
Presently, Mr. Popowits is the Lead Facilitator for the Center
for Executive Performance, teaching The Art of Communication™
Program to CEOs and their direct reports. He is an associate
faculty member of the Second City Training Center, teaching
improvisational theater techniques to performers, and business
team dynamics for The Second City Communications. In 2003 Mr.
Popowits joined the faculty of the Lake Forest Graduate School
of Management, teaching presentation and writing skills for
MBA students.
Before entering management consulting Mr. Popowits worked as
an auditor and information systems consultant with Laventhol
& Horwath. He is a CPA and a certified practitioner of the
Herrmann Brain Dominance Instrument (HBDI). He received his
business education at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign
and the University of Vienna in Austria, and then worked in
Austria for two years with a Fulbright-AAEC teaching scholarship.
He received his theater training in Chicago at the Players Workshop
and at The Second City Training Center, and he has worked as
an improvisation teacher, coach, director, and ensemble performer.
